In March 2008 Maw & Company was acquired by new management to re-focus the business on the production of high quality encaustic and geometric floor tiles. This continues a tradition, which was originated in 1850 when brothers George and Arthur Maw acquired the Worcester Porcelain Company renaming the business Maw & Company Ltd. 

During the course of the next 30 years the business grew to be the largest producer of ceramic tiles in the world producing in excess of 20,000,000 pieces per year, with the manufacture of encaustic and geometric tiles representing an important element of the production.  Maw’s ‘’list of persons and establishments supplied’’ included the Royal Family, Alexander II of Russia, two maharajas, nine dukes, twelve earls, the railway companies, thirteen cathedrals, thirty-six hospitals, fifty-three public buildings, nineteen schools and colleges, and five warships. During this period the company relocated to Iron Bridge Gorge where the old factory site is now occupied by Maws Craft Centre www.mawscraftcentre.co.uk.

The advent of the two world wars had a dramatic effect on both business levels and manufacturing capability. Rationalisation of the tile industry was inevitable and in 1960 Maw’s merged with Campbell Tiles. In 1968 the Campbell – Maw Company was absorbed into the H. & R. Johnson group.

During 2001 Maw & Company was re-established as a private company and the recent acquisition will enable the business to continue to supply encaustic and geometric flooring, primarily for the restoration market, re-supplying many of the original Maw's customers of the 1800's. Fortunately, the company has been able to retain several of the dedicated team of crafts people that will safeguard the skills for the foreseeable future. In conjunction with the traditional manufacturing methods we continue to utilise and develop new technology to assist us in the replication of floor tiles. This combined approach has helped to cement the pride that our people have in the products that they produce.

Our aim, throughout the coming years, is to enhance the company's image and profile both in the UK and overseas, establishing the company name as being synonymous with high quality and prestigious products.
